2011 Human Rights & Racial Justice Convening

Using Human Rights to Achieve Racial Justice:

We Shall Overcome

The U.S. Human Rights Fund, in collaboration with The Overbrook Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Just and Fair Schools Fund, co-hosted this convening on human rights and racial justice. This gathering of advocates and funders will take place from November 7-9, 2011 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More than 150 social justice advocates, funders, and journalists working on a diverse range of issues including immigration, housing, education, criminal justice, and poverty alleviation will attend.

Our convening features the first ever USHRF Human Rights Hero Award. We are proud to honor Jessica Lenahan's courageous efforts to hold Colorado police accountable for their failure to protect her family from domestic violence and to advocate for the rights of women throughout the world, to avoid seeing her tragedy repeated. Jessica exemplifies how those affected by human rights abuses can best define and lead their own struggles.
