The Advocates for Human Rights

The Advocates for Human Rights is dedicated to the promotion and protection of internationally recognized human rights. With the help of the more than 600 active volunteers, The Advocates documents human rights abuses, advocates on behalf of individual victims, educates on human rights issues, and provides training and technical assistance to address and prevent human rights violations.

Project

USHRF's grant to The Advocates is designated to support the "Discover Human Rights Project." This grant will enable AHR to train social justice activists through several means, including the creation of a How-To Guide to help advocates integrate a human rights-based approach into their work; and the development of Training-of-Trainer (ToT) sessions, in consultation with others. These ToT sessions will build the capacity of advocates to integrate human rights concepts and strategies into their work; provide advocates with tools to train others; and create a focus group, through which the effectiveness and impact of the toolkits and how-to guide will be tested.

In preparation of these ToT's The Advocates will create training modules for using the toolkits and how-to guide; identify national and local participants including both current and potential partners; design and implement an online forum for sharing strategies; conduct project evaluation; and produce toolkits that include fact sheets, a PowerPoint Presentation, lesson plans and teaching curricula designed by, or in consultation with high school teachers.
