Founded in 1969 as the education and research arm of the civil and human rights coalition, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund (LCCREF) emphasizes the need for national policies that support civil rights and social and economic justice. The goal of its human rights work is to build the capacity of the civil rights coalition to expand the human rights movement in the United States thus advancing the domestic social justice agenda through the use of international human rights covenants and mechanisms and participation in international forums.
LCCREF is currently engaging the civil rights community in the development of a shadow report to the second U.S. report to the United Nations CERD Committee, and co-sponsoring Diversity Dialogues between Muslims in the U.S. and the Netherlands.
