American Civil Liberties Union - Michigan

The ACLU-Michigan’s project, Second Chances: Juvenile Services Life Without Parole, seeks to conduct international advocacy, state policy, and communications/media work on ending life without parole for incarcerated youth in Michigan.

The organization intends to submit a petition to the Inter American Commission on Human Rights against the US Government for its imposition of life without parole sentences on five Michigan youths. It is also seeking reform within the Michigan legislature on the same issue. The organization is acting in partnership with local families affected by the sentencing laws, as well as coordinating with both state organizations working on juvenile justice reform and national organizations, including ACLU headquarters/chapters, Human Rights Watch, and NAACP LDF.
