National Training and Information Center
The National Training and Information Center (NTIC) is a national organizing, policy, research and training center for grassroots community organizations dedicated to building power to reclaim American democracy and advance a far-reaching racial and economic justice agenda.
For more than 36 years, NTIC has worked nationally to build and strengthen people's organizations, to develop indigenous leadership, and to advance campaigns for a more just, equitable and sustainable society.
Project
USHRF's program grant to NTIC is designated for their National Housing Justice Campaign. Over the grant term, the Campaign will carry out a series of human rights trainings and public events that bring together leaders from the housing justice movement. The overall goal of these events is to help groups better understand housing issues within a human rights frame, and to carry out advocacy on specific policy reforms.
Two national summits will take place in Washington, DC. They will result in 40-50 grassroots groups receiving training on the human right to housing and national strategy development. During the first summit groups will learn about the history of the human rights movement and human rights strategies that advance housing issues. The second summit will follow a train-the-trainer format.
Finally, a series of field meetings will be held with senior officials from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These meetings will take place in areas such as New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Western Massachusetts, Washington, Ohio and New Orleans. The meetings will provide an opportunity for HUD officials to hear directly from residents about the need for comprehensive housing reform.
