National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty
The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty (NLCHP) is the only national legal advocacy organization dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness. NLCHP's attorneys go into courtrooms and the halls of legislatures to protect the needs of society's most vulnerable members. Through impact litigation, policy advocacy, and public education NLCHP addresses the roots causes of homelessness at the local, state, and national levels.
NLCHP is spearheading an innovative human rights program to incorporate human rights strategies into domestic advocacy focusing on the human right to housing. The organization works to integrate human rights standards into all of its work by integrating its human rights program into its civil rights, domestic violence, children's rights, and policy programs.
NLCHP also organizes an annual National Forum on the Human Right to Housing and several regional trainings in cities across the country, both of which are attended by a diverse group of participants. Following its regional trainings, the organization continues to work with local partners to identify next steps and implement related advocacy plans. NLCHP also serves as a representative of the U.S. Human Rights Network's Housing Caucus.

Project
NLCHP receives funding from the U.S. Human Rights Fund to train and support advocates and attorneys working to end and prevent homelessness, educate policy makers, and increase public awareness of the human right to housing.
As part of the training program, NLCHP will produce monthly audio trainings, offered online and by phone. The audio trainings will be archived on NLCHP's website and will be part of the project's broader training curriculum, which will include web video discussions on housing and human rights issues, an updated edition of the "Housing Rights for All" training manual, and short, issue-specific information packets. NLCHP will also continue its regional training model, holding in-person sessions annually in selected cities and conducting follow-up assistance to support local implementation.
At the policy level, NLCHP is designing a comprehensive legislative package to reduce homelessness based on a human right to housing model. NLCHP will also provide local training and technical assistance to activists working to include the human right to housing as part of city and state Ten-Year Plans to End Homelessness. Additional activities will include launching a homeless law and advocacy "Wiki" website, working with allies to organize hearings on national legislation, writing articles for books and journals, and appearing in newspapers, news websites and on radio.
