National Immigrant Justice Center

The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) is a program of Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights. It ensures human rights protections and access to justice for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers through direct legal services, policy reform, impact litigation, and public education.

Project

As chair of the ICE Working Group, NIJC, with assistance from the U.S. Human Rights Fund, is leading an administrative advocacy project on strengthening due process rights for detained immigrants. The Working Group is comprised of over 35 NGOs, including legal aid providers, advocacy groups, immigrant rights organizations, and litigators. Its members meet regularly with the Department of Homeland Security and ICE officials to discuss and consult on detention, deportation and arrest policies of non-citizens, and to make recommendations for specific adminstrative reforms.
