Coalition of Immokalee Workers
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), established in 1995, is a membership-led organization of agricultural workers based in Immokalee, Florida. Its members are largely Latino, Haitian, and Mayan Indian immigrants working in low-wage jobs throughout the state of Florida.
CIW seeks justice for farmworkers and promotes their fair treatment in accordance with national and international labor standards. The "Campaign for Fast and Fair Food" is a highly creative, national campaign for the elimination of human rights violations in the US agricultural industry. For the first time in farmworker organizing history, the campaign leveraged the power of the multi-billion dollar fast-food industry in order to demand improved labor conditions of its produce suppliers. The campaign presents a structural solution to a human rights disaster on US soil.

Project
The U.S. Human Rights Fund supports the Coalition of Immokalee Workers to continue its Campaign for Fair Food, a national campaign to eliminate human rights violations in the U.S. agricultural industry.
Hoping to capitalize upon recent wage and other concessions by YUM Brands, McDonald's and Burger King, CIW continues to seek justice for farmworkers and promote their fair treatment in accordance with national and international labor standards. On the heels of their recent agreement with Burger King, CIW will focus on enforcing the penny-per-pound agreements with growers. CIW will also research possible new efforts for the Campaign for Fair Food.
