Breakthrough

Breakthrough is an innovative, high impact, international human rights organization using education, media, and popular culture to transform attitudes and advance equality, justice, and dignity. Breakthrough seeks to revitalize public support for progressive values by encouraging the application of human rights principles to domestic social justice issues through leadership training and community education, as well as multimedia strategies.

Project

Breakthrough receives general support from the U.S. Human Rights Fund. In particular, the U.S. Human Rights Fund is excited by Breakthrough's many multimedia activities, such as:

  • End Homeland Guantanamos: a multimedia campaign that simulates the inhumane conditions that exist in immigrant detention, part of the Rights Working Group initiative to spotlight the role of the Department of Homeland Security in the deterioration of civil rights and to demand accountability.
  • ICED – I Can End Deportation: a groundbreaking videogame, downloaded more than 100,000 times since February 2008, that spotlights the lack of due process in current immigration policy.
  • Restoring the Right to Due Process: A Toolkit for Immigrant Rights Advocates with multimedia resources, developed in partnership with the Rights Working Group and Detention Watch Network and distributed for the first Night of a Thousand Conversations, which convened more than 500 conversations throughout the United States.
